It seems we have been a bit slack at posting blogs recently... I guess work has really started to pick up!
Educolo, the computer centre where Etienne works, has had a fresh coat of paint and is looking much smarter! (Will post pictures in the next couple of weeks.) Its new logo is also finished (finally). Etienne ran through the finances for the month with Elmire this morning. And the good news is.... The centre has made a small profit this month! That makes a nice change!!
In other news, I almost taught a complete set of classes this week: my Tuesday morning class was only one hour long (rather than two) because I was at the hospital for the first hour having a check-up. It seems I am all better!
My Monday evening class (CEG2) was a bit of a joke. It started at 5pm and by 6.30pm it was almost completely dark - I couldn't see the kids at the back of the classroom and they couldn't see the board as the classroom (shed) has no lights. So at 6.30pm I called it a day! When I saw that class again on Thursday morning, I asked if they had any other free slots on Monday or Tuesday, hoping to move the lesson, but as the classroom is shared with another class, there were no slots available. We agreed to just have one hour of class on Mondays, 5-6pm! Here's a picture of the shed, complete with 'beach-effect' flooring, just before the start of class...
That class was horrendously behaved on Monday but much better on Thursday. I guess they were as frustrated as I was by the impossible conditions!
This is what the grounds of CEG2 look like:
All of the trees are essential for providing shade for the kids at break time... and for the motorbikes! I just hope there are still leaves on them when the really hot season comes...
My favourite class is definitely CEG3. That's the class I taught first and I just love their enthusiasm and willingness to try things. They have a brilliant sense of humour and are just generally nice kids! I do have a table of naughty girls to deal with there but they're not too bad. Here they are in action in their very spacious classroom with a very very high ceiling:
And then there's CEG1. They're also pretty funny and enthusiastic, but they are a bit more crammed into the room and there's a table of older boys who sit at the back and don't appear to follow much!
Here they are:
This week's teaching topics included more greetings (My name is... Nice to meet you... How are you? Fine, thanks, and you? Very well, thank you...), the alphabet, the days of the week, the months of the year and conjugating the verb 'to be'. Every lesson also featured some singing, of course :-D
Wishing you all a relaxing weekend :-)
Lots of love from us, and another little goat... This one was sniffing around Educolo's entrance :-)
