This morning, in classic African last-minute style, we began preparing for Christmas!!
Prof Aymar and Frere Lazare went off in search of decorations for church (Etienne and I manned Educolo but since there was a power cut - again - there wasn't much to do!) and came back armed with colourful dangly things:
Later on, we went to the market to buy little gifts to give to the church kids and their friends (hopefully there won't be more than 40!)... Wrapping paper proved to be a bit elusive, but eventually we found a guy who said he knew where we could get some. He then proceeded to take us to a hairdressing salon, where a lady was in the process of having hair extensions put in (VERY popular here!). A lady there cleared the sofa so we could sit down. We looked at each other, a bit perplexed, and then noticed jars of peanuts on a shelf. She obviously wasn't content having all her eggs in one basket! After a few minutes, she grabbed a plastic bag from a very high shelf and showed us an interesting selection of wrapping paper, mostly with designs based on roses and purple. There was 'Congratulations on your marriage', Happy Birthday', some stripy numbers and an orange and green Irish-looking design. We figured they would all be just fine!!
With all the things gathered, it was time to wrap!
And a couple of hours later... Voilà!
In the meantime, Etienne went off to church to hang up the dangly things and set up a cool lighting box...
And then he returned and morphed into a very fetching Father Pink-mas!!! (A better photo will follow.)
The life of missionaries ;-)
